What kind of qualification type is it?

This qualification is a nationwide standardised advanced vocational training. In the occupational context, vocational education and training in Germany has a multi-level system of advanced vocational training qualifications which are regulated in a nationally standardised manner. Within the scope of regulated advanced training, three levels of advanced training are differentiated. They differ with regard to competence requirements and the associated differing areas of possible company deployment. They require completion of a vocational qualification (in a recognised training occupation and/or recognised advance vocational training) or evidence of a comparable qualification. This then serves as the basis of the qualifications. Those completing the qualifications are equipped for the autonomous and responsible assumption of demanding tasks in companies.

Certified Strategic Professionals (IT) are an example of the third level of advanced professional training. This qualification forms the third level of the IT continuing training system. Qualifications at this level expand the competences of the second level of advanced professional training and add competences which are necessary for management responsibility at companies or for the processing of new complex tasks and problems. They encompass the long-term strategic market positioning and further development of a company’s IT business areas and the conclusion of strategic alliances and partnerships. The requirements are characterised by frequent and unpredictable changes.

Those completing an advanced training qualification at this level are in possession of comprehensive competences that enable them to take responsibility for developing managing organisations in an autonomous, strategic and therefore sustainable manner in changing markets. Taking the nature of the market into account, they are able to manage and shape the organisation or the performance process whilst frequent and unpredictable changes take place. They are able to design, plan and assume responsibility for implementing the goals and associated innovations necessary for sustainable organisational development. Those completing the qualification are able to take on responsibility for the development of innovations with regard to products, procedures and organisations. They are able to reflect upon economic, ecological and social effects and socio-cultural changes in realising ethically responsible company or project policy.

What are the entry requirements?

The prerequisite for admission to the advanced training examination is usually completion of advanced training leading to the qualification of Operative Professional and professional practice. In addition to this, persons able to demonstrate successful completion of a higher education examination in a course of study which can be aligned to the IT sector or are able to submit evidence of qualifications in the area of staff and human resources management and a subsequent minimum period of two years of professional practice and knowledge of English may also be admitted to the examination. Persons who are able to submit certificates or otherwise credibly demonstrate that they are in possession of the necessary qualifications may also be admitted to the examination.

How is the qualification acquired?

Work process-oriented continuing training is an essential element of the IT continuing training system. This takes place in the form of projects within the company. Continuing training takes place via self-directed study at the company and via preparatory courses at training establishments where necessary. The duration of the continuing training is not stipulated and may therefore vary. The usual duration via the self-directed study route is approximately 14 months. Preparatory courses undertaken on a part-time basis may last for 18 months.
